Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the trend of the exercise related nursing studies in Korea and the psychosocial variables treated in these studies, and to analyse the exercise pro-grammes applicated in these studies. In orders to be helpful in offering an effective exercise nursing intervention. The subjects were 36 exercise related nursing studies in Korea since nineteen eighties.
1. The subjects were 28 Doctoral and masters theses(77.8%). The dates of publication have been shown the increasing tendence from 1990. The types of research that applied the exercise programs to human subjects(32 studies, 69.6%), were 13 non-patient studies(40.6%), and 19 patient studies(59.4%). On the non-patient studies, 9 papers dealt with the aged(28.1%), on the patient studies, 5 papers dealth with the type II DM patients (15.6%), and so on. Research disign were 35 experimental studies(97.2%).
2. The purposes of exercise program were muscle strength or endurance(11, 34.4%), the progression of cardiopulmonary function(10 studies, 31.3%), glucose and lipids metabolism activation(10, 31.3%), normal bocy composition ,;9, 28.31%), and so on.
3. The types of exercise were 18 aerobic exercise and 16 muscle exercise so on. The intensity of exercise was between Maximal Heart Rates 40-70% in the 15 papers(46.9%). Duration of exercise was between 5 day and 3 months, 8 papers applied 8 weeks(25%).
4. 14(43.75%) studies used theory and psychosocial variables, among these, 3 papers applied the theory t) exercise program, the most frequently used i ariables was self-efficacy(6 studies, 18.7%).
Suggestions
1. The nursing intervention for exercise based on theory should be used for exercise participation, compliance, and continuity.
2. Nurses should be qualified for exercise prescription and exercise program should be practiced more systematically and more effectively.
